Tim Hirsch has had an unconventional career path leading from 20 years in journalism through science communication consultancy to leadership and global advocacy in the sharing of biodiversity information. As Deputy Director and Head of Participation and Engagement at the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Tim leads the team that supports GBIF’s network of national and thematic nodes sharing data for biodiversity research and policy, manages capacity enhancement programmes, collaborates with related networks and organisations around the world, and communicates GBIF’s activities. Tim worked as science writer with the CBD to co-author the 3rd, 4th and 5th Global Biodiversity Outlook reports.
